Merry Sinterklaas

Merry Xmas or whatever merry/happy you like!

I wanted to tell the story of the Dutch Sinterklaasavond because when I heard about it, my jaw dropped to my knees. It is fascinating to learn about different Xmas/Xmas-like celebrations around the world!

Read more about it here and see some RAD “surprises” here.

It’s worth pointing out that Sinterklaas is one of the origins for Santa, as he was brought to the US with Dutch immigrants.
To make things more complex, there’s also a Xmas here. So Sinterklaas is not actually a Xmas variant, Santa is partially a Sinterklaas variant and Xmas is something else entirely.
Happy holidays from a pedantic Belgian.

my lecturer who lives in the netherlands was telling me about the black petes when i spotted a black pete on some cookies he gave us in class and questioned it’s political correctness etc. haha christmas is crazy
