Guest Strip – Nick Wolfe

Oh yes. I have been biding my time. The wait was difficult but finally… finally

Let me tell you about Nick Wolfe.

He is a super guy! A super prolific cartoonist. He does one of the very first webcomics I ever read regularly and loved and still do both of those things to this day. He is an undiscovered brilliant writer and I am proud to be able to introduce him to those of you who don’t know him. You will love me for it.

His comic is called Name Removed.

Name Removed might strike you at first as being a bit all-over-the-place or difficult to follow, but READ SOME MORE OF IT. I promise you, once you begin to understand the style, the flow, the concept – once it clicks for you – you will never go back (to NOT reading his comics, I mean).

Name Removed is clever, it is never patronising, it is funny and strange and full of wonderful ideas. It follows only a handful of main characters (a couple of monsters, a mad scientist, a space frog…) who are free to get up to anything and be anything.  Sometimes, they are “themselves”, sometimes taking on different lives, personalities or situations as if actors in a play, sometimes, well, things are just different for the fun of it. Because it works. Because it is better.

Despite all of this, you will get to know the characters well and you cannot help but love them. Name Removed stories tend to jump from event to event in a much faster or obtuse way than a lot of comics, but that is part of the joy of them. Nick does not assume his readers are fools, and he knows they can figure out how things got from a situation in one panel to the next one. Part of the fun, a lot of the time, is in figuring it out.

Nick is amazing. Name Removed is amazing. I have so much gosh-darned respect for him and I think he has a lot to teach the comics world. Do yourself a big favour and get in on the ground floor here.

Go read Name Removed!

Thankyou, Nick Wolfe!
