Diary #014 – Clothing Resolution Update part 8

2 more pages to go. The next one is going up immediately. The third will update on the following day.

I wanted to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to Nick Wolfe and his brilliant comic, Name Removed. It turned 5 years old recently! And for such a prolific cartoonist as Nick, that means ABOUT A MILLION COMICS.

Thankyou Nick for doing one of my all-time favourite comics. You’re an inspiration!

Yeah, but do you need stockings? What about pants and long socks? If you can’t find stockings that fit your sustainability ideal, then you have to decide whether it’s better to sacrifice your style/comfort or your ideal, and all things considered, it shouldn’t be a hard choice. Following your ideal is not the same as thinking about and taking baby steps towards your ideal. Not that that isn’t good, just that it’s not the best you can do, or reasonably expect from yourself. And who are you doing this for – just yourself, or also everyone and everything affected by your actions? If you have an explanation you think would satisfy the underpaid Chinese workers, i.e. “I need to feed my family” or “I would’ve gotten frostbite otherwise”, that’s one thing. Do you have an explanation you think would satisfy those affected? Of course, even the thought you put into this puts you totally at odds with our society, so the question is, how much are you willing to sacrifice to live sustainably? More than most others, clearly, but as much as you can and think you should? Maybe not?
