KinokoFry #035 – Where Babies Come From

This is the very first (and last?) strip drawn straight onto the computer. I’m using a new program and giving it a go. What do you think?

EDIT: Made the text lines a bit thinner.

EDIT: I have a shirt design up on Threadless.com!

I personally prefer the style of the hand drawn comics.

The biggest question is what floats your boat more at the moment. I’ve come to love using a tablet to draw – but that’s because of the precious Ctrl-Z. This looks as good as always. It’s still freehand, and the style is still there. Of course, the highlight is a baby’s tooth chomping over the panel below it – and as long as you’ve got that, well… what more could we ask for?

Hmm.. now if you’ll excuse me, my Sex Ed. teacher has some explaining to do…

I liked the hand drawn style a bit better. The lines are a bit too thick for my liking, and, personally, I liked it when the characters didn’t have pupils. The pupils kind of don’t match the characters in my oppinion… :/

Still a good comic, though! :D

This is kind of a silly criticism, but I really preferred when the backgrounds of all your panels blended into each other.

This colors and lineart are a lot bolder in this one. I like it a lot, but there just seems something more personal and enticing about the hand drawn ones. Though I totally understand the motivation to do them on the computer and you definitely do it better than many other web comics. What new program you using?

Rebecca, the sudden style change threw me for a bit, but it looks nice. I can see what Trella means about the way the backgrounds used to flow through the whole comic, but for this one, where you depend on different camera angles, it would have been really limiting to try and use the same device here.

So to recap, they come from the baby-pipe, migrate away, but in terms of daily use, they go on the second shelf, above the cans of mystery, and next to the… snail butter?? Must make a mental note of it.

It looks great Rebecca! Your art style is so unique, so quirky, i’m pretty sure it will look great no matter what medium you use. Keep it up!

Rob 64: Well done! It WAS a Yoshi’s Island reference in a way.

    Thanks for the compliments/thoughts, everyone!

i agree with Trella, i like when the backgrounds are blended into one another, but if you look at the second panel, the baby is biting over the border :)

It is nice with the blending together of the backgrounds when the comics strip is only moving through time but when it’s moving through spatial perceptions also, with zooming out and spinning around and walking to the shelves, I would imagine it a necessity to forget about the blending. I really like this comic, panel three especially.

Pff Threadless. You should just put things on Zazzle.com, Rebecca, for people would buy them already.

As for the story, I won’t show it to my kids! It will bring them nightmares! :D

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone! There is a new comic coming up soon, and it will artistically be an improvement on this one, I hope. I’ve learnt a lot recently.

Incidentally, I’ve been doing some work for Eegra this week and there will be something of mine up there tomorrow too.
