How odd!
Congratulations, guys! This is the first page of the extra special comic that you have earned with your donations to the Help-Buy-A-New-Laptop Fund. You have been wonderful.
Page 2 is coming soon. Page 3 will be available when we reach $300, and so on.
EDIT: Well, look at that. Right on queue, my laptop’s backlight is broken! I can barely read what I’m typing now. If anyone has any hints for trying to fix this, please let me know. If it doesn’t right itself, that may be that. I have no idea what to do.

FURTHER EDIT: It appears my backlight has said farewell to the world. My laptop is on it’s deathbed, I have jammed a respirator into it.
After receiving a TONNE of advice from people on my art blog (thankyou SO much, guys!), I tried hooking it up to a small TV we have here but for no reason I can figure out, it still won’t work. So that appears to be that.
I am counting my blessings that the laptop is still functioning though and even though I can barely do anything, I CAN still contact people. What this does mean is that my goal of getting a new laptop is all the more urgent.
I’m living in Osaka, Japan right now but only for about 12 more days. I’m flying back to Australia soon to stay with friends and figure out what I need to do to support myself. I haven’t had a job for 2 months, because I took these months ago to work as a full-time cartoonist. It’s been GREAT and I can’t believe the success I’ve had with KinokoFry so far! Everyone has been wonderful. But I don’t have any money apart from the barest amount that I need to live for 2 more weeks on toast and peanut butter.
I’ve put a lot of work into KinokoFry so far but this is just the beginning. What I want is to try and keep making this a success and keep producing, as often as I can. If I’m able to someday, I want to make this daily or, at least, near-daily. I won’t go boring you anymore with my aspirations, but my point is that I have never needed donations more than now. I will keep updating in whatever way I can! I will be heavily limited but I’ll see what I can do.
To be honest, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to update J’Raff up there! But I will keep you informed of the current amount. Please, if you are at all able, consider even a small donation (but large donations ARE ALSO OKAY!). It really is quite crucial that I buy a new laptop as soon as possible. I didn’t expect this thing to die as quickly as it has.
THANKYOU SO MUCH EVERYONE! I know I keep saying it, but I cannot express it enough. I am really touched by how supportive everyone has been.

the trees are pretty, they remind me of the ones from the Lorax story by Dr. Seuss. but that squirrel gives me the willies.
Rebecca, first i’d try the “old standbys” … which i’m sure you have by now… shifting the screen’s angle (if it’s a laptop, with a hinge), rebooting, shutting off the pc, unplugging it and letting it cool (yeah, i know…it’s almost certainly not a processor problem, so that won’t do much)… realisticly, it must be a loose wire or a burned out component, so sending it for repair might be you only salvage option, now… sorry i can’t be of more help.

But about your poor laptop I don’t know what to do. Mine had a period when it shut off when I moved the screen =.=.
Try shutting it down or fiddling with the screen and hopefully it will fix itself..at least temporarily :)?

Thanks everyone. I’m afraid I’m in a sticky situation which I will write about in more detail later. But basically, I’m leaving the country in 12 days and I have NO money, so buying a new moniter or even taking the thing for repairs is not an option.
I’ll do what I can in these next few days. We’ll see… but with this laptop the way it is, there’s no way I can update the comic. I can keep drawing it, but I can’t scan/colour/upload it. I can barely see what I’m typing now.
I’m afraid what I need most right now are more donations. Please, please, if you are able to - every little bit counts!
Thanks again for the support guys though. I’ll try to think of a way around this. I don’t want to stop updating!

Most laptops let you hook them up to regular computer monitors, you could do that with your laptop, Once you connect it hit Fn (or the equivalent on your laptop) + F8 (the most common, sometimes it’s F4 though). This should switch it to displaying on the monitor.

I just got back from studying for 1 1/2 years there, and I’m pretty much in the same boat as you. I haven’t worked since going there, and now I’ve got about a month to figure out how I’m gonna pay rent..lol. I guess I’ll have to get one of those job things and use the internet as supplemental income for now.
