That mushroom has already lost that game, there’s little chance of him winning. If i was him i would throw the board up in the air and shout “I didn’t want to play anyway”.

And it’s the return of the King! … Mushroom King, that is. …does that mean this is the Mushroom Kingdom?? ^_^ lots of cute things going on in this strip! hehe. first, i like the way the background flows seamlessly from one panel to the next while still being recognizably the same background, very nice. then the echo of the… yes, checkers board (damn my american heritage) in the mountains. There’s also the fact that as the game stands, the mushroom has exactly TWO possible moves and he chooses the OBVIOUSLY poor one. (though, yeah Jimbo, at this point he’s already lost… and the ladybug chooses the least effective of four possible moves as well… geez i’m over-analyzing this.) And of course, the King being forced to king his loyal subject is cute too. (see comic #8) I think my favorite part is how the ladybug uses a living tree to move his (her?) pieces. I can almost hear it sproinging back and forth as the ladybug lets go.
incidentally, I wanted to ask Rebecca, do ALL your mushrooms have names? we/ve heard Timby and Grayscale (grey?), you mentioned Grandpa (as a name?) and then there’s Sammy in a class all his own, so i was just wondering about the rest.

Hmm…. last night I had a dream about checkers, my mom and I were on a hunt throughout all the toystores to buy a new checkerboard, the one we wanted was over $100 and the only other option was one the size of my palm. Now that I think about it, that would’ve been the perfect size for Ladybug!
